LedgersÂ
Hi there! Welcome to Dex, Forte's latest and greatest payments application. With Dex, you can view, create, and manage all your transaction data—including customers, payment methods, addresses, and schedules—in one convenient place. You can also view and maintain your merchant account, keep track of your funding entries, resolve disputed transactions, and generate API credentials to connect Dex with your third-party applications.
Understanding Ledgers
The Ledgers Datagrid enables you to track the flow of money to and from a merchant as Forte processes his/her transactions and resolves any outstanding balances in his/her funding accounts. A merchant location can have multiple ledgers that segment the merchant's balances by reserve and transaction amounts for both credit card and echeck transactions. Reserve ledgers contain entries for funds that we hold for the merchant to help offset amounts owed to Forte, such as returned items, chargebacks, fees/fines, and merchant billing obligations. Credit Card and eCheck Transaction Activity ledger entries are segmented into settlement (i.e., ACH orgination, PayFac credit card settlement, and credit card chargeback settlement), funding (i.e., net ACH funding, Payfac credit card funding), and reserve (i.e., transfer to echeck reserves) entry types.
The Ledgers Datagrid
To view a merchant's Ledgers Datagrid, access the merchant's home organization and then select Ledgers from the Dex main menu. The following columns display on the Ledgers Datagrid:
Column | Description |
Date | The date when the ledger entry was created. This date does NOT correlate to the transaction origination date. |
Entry Type | The type of entry added to the ledger. Entries can be automatically added by the merchant's credit card processor, Forte's Batch Auto-Processor application (BAP) (for origination and funding), or manually via Add Entry function. Supported options for Card Activity Ledger include the following: Adjustment ACH Origination Adjustment |

Filter | Description |
Date | The date when the ledger entry was created. Use the date picker in both the Start Date and End Date fields to customize the date range of your listed ledger entries. If a date range is not provided, the End Date defaults to today's date and the Start Date defaults to yesterday. You can also choose one of the following pre-set dates/date ranges: Today |
Ledger Type | The type of ledger to which these entries apply. Supported options include the following: Reserve - Card |
Entry Type | Use the dropdown to select an Entry Type filter. The values that display in this field depend on the Ledger Type you selected. Supported options for Card Activity Ledger include the following: Adjustment ACH Origination Adjustment |
Location ID | The name and ID number of the specific merchant location to which the ledger entry(ies) belong. The Ledgers datagrid displays ledger entries for every merchant location under an Organization. |
Add a Ledger Entry
NOTE: Only Account Managers and members of the Risk Team can add ledger entries. If you don't see Add Entry button on the Ledgers Datagrid, ask you manager to add you to a role that contains the Ledgers - Add Entry permission.
While the bulk of ledger entries will come from the merchant's credit card processor or our Batch Auto-Processor (BAP) application, you can also make manual corrections, or adjustments, to a ledger or manually release or transfer funds from the merchant's reserve funds. To add a ledger entry, complete the following steps:
- Search for the merchant's home organization and select Ledgers from the Dex main menu.
- Click the Add Entry button in the upper, right-hand corner of the Ledgers Datagrid. The Add Entry Modal displays.
- Complete the following required fields:

You can only make Adjustments to Transaction Activity Ledgers (both card and echeck); however, for Reserve Ledgers (both echeck and credit card), use the dropdown menu to select one of the following entry types: Adjustment NOTE: Dex uses the ledger entry type you select to auto-populate the values available in the Description dropdown menu. |
