Hi there! Welcome to Dex, Forte's latest and greatest payments application. With Dex, you can view, create, and manage all your transaction data—including customers, payment methods, addresses, and schedules—in one convenient place. You can also view and maintain your merchant account, keep track of your funding entries, resolve disputed transactions, and generate API credentials to connect Dex with your third-party applications.
Enterprise Organizations
Create Enterprise Organizations
In Dex, an enterprise organization is a grouping of merchant organizations with different Tax ID numbers. By logging in at the enterprise level, a user can access all the merchant accounts and locations that belong to that enterprise organization. In WebTools, the enterprise organization was known as the Hierarchy MID. Only Enrollment and Implementation have the permissions to create enterprise organizations.
To create an enterprise organization, complete the following steps:
- Navigate to the Organizations Datagrid by clicking Organizations in the Dex main menu.
- Click the Create New button in the upper-right corner. The Create Organization Modal displays.
- Select the Enterprise option. The Select a Partner Organization field displays.
- Use the dropdown menu in the Select a Partner Organization field to select the partner hierarchy to which this enterprise organization will belong.
- Click the Next button. The Create Organization Modal displays merchant data fields.
- Complete the following fields:

- Click the Create button. If Dex created the organization without issue, the Create Organization Modal displays a success message and the organization ID of the enterprise organization.
- Click the Close link on the Create Organization Modal to return to the Organizations Datagrid. The new enterprise organization should display in the datagrid.
After creating an enterprise organization, you can now add and remove merchants to/from its hierarchy and view its details.
View Enterprise Organizations
Enterprise organization are a grouping of merchant organizations with different Tax ID numbers. By accessing an enterprise organization, a partner can access these different organizations and locations all at once rather than having to individually access each merchant by switching home organizations. Enterprise organizations make accessing and managing merchant data easier for partners.
Use one of the following methods to view the details and hierarchy of an enterprise organization:
- Navigate to the Organizations Datagrid by clicking Organizations in the Dex main menu and then search for the organization by name or ID and/or select Enterprise on the Type filter dropdown field. After finding the desired enterprise organization, click the row on which its listed to view the Organization's Details Screen.
- Access the enterprise organization's home account and then click Organizations in the Dex main menu. Search for the organization by name or ID and/or select Enterprise on the Type filter dropdown field. After finding the desired enterprise organization, click the row on which its listed to view the Organization's Details Screen.
The following table displays what data each card on the Enterprise Organization's Details Screen displays:

Add Merchants to Enterprise Organizations
NOTE:Â Only Enrollment and Implementation have the permissions to add merchants to enterprise organizations.
Enterprise organizations in Dex give partners the ability to access, view, and manage multiple merchant organizations with unique tax IDs all at once. Each merchant organization must be manually added to an enterprise organization's hierarchy from either the Organizations Datagrid or the Organization's Details Screen.
To add a merchant to an enterprise organization, complete the following steps:
- Navigate to the Organizations Datagrid by selecting Organizations from the Dex main menu.
- Search for the merchant organization by name or ID and/or filter the list of displayed organizations by using the Legal Name, Status, Portfolio ID, Tax ID, or Type (Merchant).
- Access the Add to Enterprise Modal using one of two methods:
- From the Organizations Datagrid, clickÂ
> Add to Enterprise next to the organization's listing.
- Access the Organization's Details Screen and click Actions > Add to Enterprise.
- From the Organizations Datagrid, clickÂ
- Use the dropdown in the Select Enterprise Organization field to select the enterprise organization to which you want to add the merchant. You can also search for the enterprise organization by name or ID in the search field that displays.
- Click the Add button. If successful, Dex displays a success message.
- Click the Close link on the Add to Enterprise Modal to return to the previous screen. The merchant organization's Portfolio ID should display the enterprise organization's name and ID in either the Organizations Datagrid or the "General Information" card of the Organization's Details Screen.
Remove Merchants from Enterprise Organizations
NOTE:Â Only Enrollment and Implementation have the permissions to remove merchants from enterprise organizations.
Enterprise organizations in Dex give partners the ability to access, view, and manage multiple merchant organizations with unique tax IDs all at once. The enterprise organization's hierarchy must be manually created and maintained. Merchant organizations can be removed from an enterprise hierarchy and "re-parented" back into the partner's direct hierarchy. Once removed from the enterprise hierarchy, the partner will have to individually access that merchant organization and location to view and manage its data.
To remove a merchant from an enterprise organization complete the following steps:
- Navigate to the Organizations Datagrid by selecting Organizations from the Dex main menu.
- Search for the merchant organization by name or ID and/or filter the list of displayed organizations by using the Legal Name, Status, Portfolio ID, Tax ID, or Type (Merchant).
- Access the Remove from Enterprise Modal using one of two methods:
- From the Organizations Datagrid, clickÂ
> Remove to Enterprise next to the organization's listing.
- Access the Organization's Details Screen and click Actions > Remove from Enterprise.
- From the Organizations Datagrid, clickÂ
- Click the Remove button to confirm the action. If successful, Dex displays a success message.
- Click the Close link on the Remove from Enterprise Modal to return to the Organizations Datagrid. The merchant's Portfolio ID now displays the partner's name and ID in the Organizations Datagrid or in the "General Information" card on the Organization's Details Screen.
Search for Organizations
The Organizations Datagrid enables users with appropriate permissions to view the settings and configurations of an Organization. You can sort organization records in ascending/descending order by Created Date, alphabetically by Organization Name, or numerically by Organization ID. To find a specific organization, you can filter the displayed results by Legal Name, Status, Type, Parent ID and/or Tax ID. You also can customize the number of items that display using the display dropdown in the bottom left corner.
To access the Organizations Datagrid, click Organizations from the Dex main menu. To view the details of a specific organization without having to filter through a long list, enter one of the following values in the search bar:
- Organization Name
- Organization ID
Dex auto-populates the results datagrid as you type. Use the search filters described below to further refine your results. The following table provides a brief description of what each column displays on the Customers Datagrid:

Dispute Funding Mode | The funding mode used for transaction disputes. Supported funding modes include the following: Immediate |
Created Date | The date when Forte created this organization. |
Filtering the Organizations Datagrid
You can apply the following filters to customize the displayed organization datagrid:

If you would like to refine the results of an organization list further, you can use more specific filter parameters located under the More Filters dropdown menu. The following filters are available.

View Organization Details
An Organization's Details Screen enables users with appropriate permissions to view the details of a particular organization. This information includes contact data, bank account, and security configurations.
To view the details of a organization, complete the following steps:
- Access the Organizations Datagrid by clicking Organizations in the Dex main menu.
- Search for the desired organization record by Name or ID. You can also use the Legal Name, Status, Parent ID, Tax ID, and Type filters to narrow down the list of displayed results.
- When you find the desired organization record, click the row on which the organization's record displays. The Organization's Detail Screen displays.
The following table describes what each data card on the Organization's Details Screen displays:

Create Gateway Merchants
Partners and Forte Account Managers can quickly and efficiently create Gateway-only merchant organizations and locations directly from Dex. The Tax ID number (i.e., Social Security Number (SSN), Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN), or Employer Identification Number (EIN)) provided by the merchant must be unique and cannot exist under another live merchant organization owned by your partner account. If you need this type of setup, contact your Forte Account Manager. If desired, Dex can automatically generate an invitation email to the merchant contact and/or create Virtual Terminal credentials, so they can get up and running faster.
To create a gateway-only merchant, complete the following steps:
- Navigate to the Organizations Datagrid by clicking Organizations in the Dex main menu.
- Click the Create New button in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. The Create Organization Modal displays.
- Select Merchant from the Select Account Type menu. Your partner name and Organization ID automatically populate.
- Click the Next button. The Business Information fields display.
- Complete the following required fields:

Website | The URL of the website where the merchant will be capturing transactions. |
Business Category | A broad description of the business or industry this merchant is in. The value selected in this field determines the options you can select in the Business Type field. |
Business Type | The specific type of business and the Forte Business Classification Code that most closely represents this merchant's business. |
Most Transactions Via | Indicates the method by which the merchant captures transactions. Supported values include the following: Internet |
- Click the Next button. The Contact fields display.
- Complete the following required fields:

Name | The full name of the merchant's primary contact. |
Phone | The phone number of the merchant's primary contact. |
The email address of the merchant's primary contact. If you select the Invite to Dex? checkbox, this email address will be where Dex sends the invitation and what the merchant will use as his or her username credentials to log into Dex. | |
Invite to Dex? | Indicates whether or not you want Dex to automatically send an invitation link to the email address specified in the Email field. |
- Click the Next button. The Processor Credentials fields display.
- Click the Processor dropdown and select the credit card processor you wish to use. The following options are supported: Vantiv, GlobalPayments East, Vital, and FirstData. After selecting a processor, the processing credentials for that merchant account display. These credentials originate from the VAR sheet
 that the credit card processor provides to the merchant after setting up their merchant account for credit card processing.
- Complete the following required fields:

- Click the Next button. The Billing fields display.
- If your partner account is set up under a “Partner Billed” billing module, the billing fields auto-populate with your banking and fee information. If desired, you can adjust the Per Gateway Transaction, Gateway Monthly, and Enrollment and Setup Fee amounts, including fee amounts less than your Partner Buy Rate. If you prefer that Forte bill the merchant directly, click the Merchant radio button under the “Fees Billed To” section and complete the following fields:

Routing Number | The Transit Routing Number (TRN) that uniquely identifies the merchant's bank. |
Account Number/ Re-Enter Bank Account Number | The account number of the merchant's checking or savings bank account. |
Per Gateway Transaction | The amount Forte charges the merchant for each credit card transaction captured using our gateway services. |
Gateway Monthly | The monthly amount Forte charges the merchant for gateway services. |
Enrollment & Setup Fee | The one-time fee Forte charges the merchant for setting up his or her Forte MID and gateway services. |
- Click the Next button. The Review screen displays.
- Review the summary details to ensure you entered the merchant’s information correctly. If you spot a mistake or a typo, use the Back link to navigate to the appropriate fields to make changes. If the data is correct, click the Submit button. Dex displays a message indicating whether or not the merchant’s account was created successfully and displays the merchant’s Organization and Location IDs as well as Virtual Terminal login credentials (if the merchant prefers to use VT).
- To create another gateway-only merchant account, click the Create New button and repeat steps 3–14 again. Otherwise click the Okay button to return to the Organizations Datagrid.
View Bank Account Settings
Once approved by Forte, merchant bank accounts can be assigned to specific locations and configured for specific activities, such as billing and funding. To view the bank account settings currently assigned to your merchant organization, complete the following steps:
- Click Organizations in the Dex Main Menu.
- Enter the Organization Name or ID in the Search field to find the desired merchant organization or use the filters to narrow down the list of displayed results. Click the row on which the Organization displays. The Organization's Details Screen displays.
- Click the Bank Accounts tab. A list of all the bank accounts currently defined for this organization displays. This list includes bank accounts in Documents Needed and In-Review statuses. NOTE: You can only view settings for bank accounts in the Active status.
- To view the unredacted bank account number, clickÂ

- To view the locations assigned to this bank account, click the Assigned to x Location(s) link. A dropdown displays showing the name and ID of the location and the type of funding account for which this bank account will be used. The following funding accounts are supported:Â
- Funding Debit
- Funding Credit
- Card Service Fee (e.g., Principal Only, Fee Only, Principal + Fee)
- ACH Service Fee (e.g., Principal Only, Fee Only, Principal + Fee)
Working with Buy Rates
NOTE:Â For the first billing cycle after a buy rate is created, the following roles can add and edit buy rates:Â

Buy Rates are custom pricing models negotiated for Partners for each product. They include the following elements:

A minimum quantity of product or a minimum volume amount that the Partner must sell to get the negotiated buy rate,
-
A buy rate or base amount Forte charges them for the product once the minimum quantity/amount is sold
-
A percentage, which, when added to the base amount, is the product price that partners offer to their merchants.
Buy Rate listings can be found under the Portfolios tab of a partner's Organization Details Screen.
Adding Buy Rates
Complete the following steps to add a new buy rate to a partner's portfolio:

Navigate to the Organizations Datagrid by clicking Organizations on the Dex main menu.

Search for the organization by entering the Organization Name or ID in the search bar. Alternatively, you can filter the list of displayed organization by Legal Name, Status, Parent ID, Tax ID, and Type=Partner.

Click on the desired organization to display it's Details page.

If not already selected, click the Portfolios tab.
-
Use the dropdown field to select the correct Portfolio ID.

If not already selected, click the Buy Rates tab.
-
Click the Add New Item button that displays beneath the list of buy rates. Buy rate definition fields display beneath the list of existing buy rates.

In the Item field, use the dropdown to select the product you want to add to the buy rate list.
-
In the Comment field, enter a comment about why this buy rate is being added to this partner's portfolio. This comment will display on the Comments tab of the partner's Organization Detail page.

In the Level 1-8 fields, enter the minimum quantity or the minimum dollar volume, the partner's negotiated buy rate amount, and the percent over base percentage in that order in the three empty boxes for each level. If only the Level 1 field is completed, Dex will automatically add zeros to the Level 2-8 fields.

Click the Add button. Dex reloads the Organization's Details page with the new buy rate displayed.
Editing Buy Rates
Complete the following steps to edit a buy rate:

Navigate to the Organizations Datagrid by clicking Organizations on the Dex main menu.

Search for the organization by entering the Organization Name or ID in the search bar. Alternatively, you can filter the list of displayed organization by Legal Name, Status, Parent ID, Tax ID, and Type=Partner.

Click on the desired organization to display it's Details page.

If not already selected, click the Portfolios tab.

Use the dropdown field to select the correct Portfolio ID.

If not already selected, click the Buy Rates tab.
-
Find the buy rate you want to edit and click theÂ
to the right of it. The buy rate definition fields display.

In the Comment field, enter a comment about what and why this buy rate is changing. This comment will display on the Comments tab of the partner's Organization Detail page.

Enter the changes to the Level 1-8 fields. Only numbers are allowed in the Min Quantity/Min $ Volume and % Over Base fields. Both numbers and periods are allowed for the Buy Rate field.

Click the Save button. Dex reloads the Organization Details page with the updated buy rate displayed.
Deleting Buy Rates
Complete the following steps to delete a buy rate:

Navigate to the Organizations Datagrid by clicking Organizations on the Dex main menu.

Search for the organization by entering the Organization Name or ID in the search bar. Alternatively, you can filter the list of displayed organization by Legal Name, Status, Parent ID, Tax ID, and Type=Partner.

Click on the desired organization to display its Details page.

If not already selected, click the Portfolios tab.
-
Use the dropdown field to select the correct Portfolio ID.

If not already selected, click the Buy Rates tab.
-
Find the buy rate you want to delete and click theÂ
to the right of it. The buy rate definition fields display.

In the Comment field, enter a comment about why you are deleting this buy rate. This comment will display on the Comments tab of the partner's Organization Details page.

Click the Delete button. A deletion confirmation message displays.

To confirm the deletion, click the Delete button. To return to the Organization Detail page, click Cancel.

Once the buy rate is deleted, Dex reloads the Organization Details page.
Manage a Partner Hierarchy
he Hierarchy tab of an Organization's Details Screen gives corporate users the ability to view and maintain the child organizations and locations that belong to a partner. These child organizations can include both sub-partners and merchants. This tab enables you to migrate locations from one merchant organization to another, delete locations, and/or delete merchant organizations. NOTE: Deleting merchant organizations, removing locations from a merchant organization, and moving locations to a different merchant organization can only occur after accessing the partner organization's home organization. These actions cannot be taken at the corporate or merchant level.
Viewing and Searching a Hierarchy
To view a partner hierarchy, complete the following steps:
- Click Organizations from the Dex main menu. The Organizations Datagrid displays.
- Select the organization from the datagrid, the Organization's Details Screen displays.
- Search for the partner organization by Organization Name or ID and/or use the Legal Name, Status, or Tax ID filters to narrow down the displayed list of results.
- After finding the desired organization, click the row on which it's listed. The partner Organization's Detail Screen displays.
- Click the Hierarchy tab. All the organizations that belong to that partner organization display.
- To search for a specific organization within the hierarchy enter its Federal Tax ID (e.g., SSN, ITIN, EIN) in the Search field; otherwise, scroll through the list of organizations to view the entire hierarchy.
- To view the locations (or in the case of sub-partners, merchant organizations) of an organization in the hierarchy, click on the box containing its Name, Organization ID, and redacted Federal ID. The locations display below the organization's box.
Migrating a Location
Locations within the same partner hierarchy can be moved from one merchant organization to another, as long as the location's associated Tax ID matches the new merchant organization's Tax ID. To migrate a location, complete the following steps:
- Click Organizations from the Dex main menu. The Organizations Datagrid displays.
- Select the organization from the datagrid, the Organization's Details Screen displays.
- Search for the partner organization by Organization Name or ID and/or use the Legal Name, Status, or Tax ID filters to narrow down the displayed list of results.
- After finding the desired organization, click the row on which it's listed. The Organization's Detail Screen displays.
- Click the Hierarchy tab. All the organizations that belong to that partner organization display.
- To search for a specific organization within the hierarchy, enter its Federal Tax ID (e.g., SSN, ITIN, EIN) in the Search field; otherwise, scroll through the list of organizations and click on the desired organization(s). The child locations display.
- Select the location(s) you wish to migrate by clicking the checkbox(es) that display next to the location's name and ID. If all the locations selected have the same federal tax ID, a Move Selected Locations button displays. NOTE: Locations from different merchant organizations can be selected and moved into another merchant organization as long as they have the same federal tax ID number.
- Click the Move Selected Locations button. The Move Locations Modal displays.
- Use the dropdown menu in the New Organization field to select the merchant organization where you want to migrate the location(s). This field only displays merchant organizations that share the same federal tax ID with the selected location.
- Click the Move button. Dex returns you to the partner's hierarchy with the locations moved to the new merchant organization.
Removing a Location
In addition to migrating locations, you can also un-migrate or remove locations from a partner hierarchy. Once removed, the location must then be manually migrated to a different merchant organization in a different Partner hierarchy using existing processes in Web Tools and Dex. To remove a location from a merchant hierarchy, complete the following steps:
- Select the organization from the datagrid, the Organization's Details Screen displays.
- Search for the Partner organization by Organization Name or ID and/or use the Legal Name, Status, or Tax ID filters to narrow down the displayed list of results.
- After finding the desired organization, click the row on which it's listed. The Organization's Detail Screen displays.
- Click the Hierarchy tab. All the organizations that belong to that Partner organization display.
- To search for a specific organization, enter its Federal Tax ID (e.g., SSN, ITIN, EIN) in the Search field; otherwise, scroll through the list of organizations and click on the desired organization. Its child locations display.
- Hover over the location you wish to un-migrate; a Delete button displays.
- Click the Delete button. A Remove Location Modal displays.
- Confirm that you selected the correct location and then click the Delete button. Dex returns you to the Partner's hierarchy with the selected location removed. NOTE: If you remove a merchant's only location from its hierarchy, Dex will no longer display that merchant in the Partner's hierarchy.
Deleting an Organization
Merchant organizations with no locations can be deleted from a Partner's hierarchy. To delete an organization, complete the following steps:
- Select the organization from the datagrid, the Organization's Details Screen displays.
- Search for the Partner organization by Organization Name or ID and/or use the Legal Name, Status, or Tax ID filters to narrow down the displayed list of results.
- After finding the desired organization, click the row on which it's listed. The Organization's Detail Screen displays.
- Click the Hierarchy tab. All the organizations that belong to that Partner organization display.
- To search for a specific organization, enter its Federal Tax ID (e.g., SSN, ITIN, EIN) in the Search field; otherwise, scroll through the list of organizations and click on the desired organization. A Delete button displays.
- Click the Delete button. A Delete Organization Modal displays.
- Confirm that you selected the correct organization and then click the Delete button on the Modal. Dex returns you to the partner's hierarchy with the selected organization removed.
